603 repentant Boko Haram fighters to be reintegrated into communities

The Defence Headquarters says 603 repentant Boko Haram fighters are billed to be reintegrated into their communities in July having completed the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) programme.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMO), John Enenche, disclosed this while giving update on Armed Forces of Nigeria operations at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr Enenche, a major-general, said the DRR programme, which is defence Headquarters led multi-agency programme under Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC), had recorded tremendous success since inception in 2016.

He added that OPSC had admitted 893 ex-combatants for the programme out of which 280 including two Chadians had been successfully reintegrated back into the society through their respective national and state authorities.

“Presently, there are 603 of them undergoing the DRR Programme and would be graduating by July 2020.

“The Operation is a success story as feedbacks from those reintegrated are positive.

“A particular one in Bama who learnt barbing as a vocation has successfully empowered four locals and is happily married with children,” he said.

Enenche said that the concept of OPSC was that of a unique non-kinetic operation aimed at giving hope to ex-combatants who willingly give up their arms to embrace peace.

He emphasised that the operation was guided by among other provisions such as International Humanitarian and Human Rights Laws.

According to him, it is being administered by 468 staff drawn from 17 organisations including the armed orces, law enforcement and security agencies, other Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

He added that the scheme had also enjoyed widespread collaboration and support of local and international NGOs.

The coordinator explained that the concept was not a process of assembling raw repentant ex-combatants to inject back into the society by the Military.

He added that it was an international best practice for conflict management backed by relevant laws with the concurrence of key stakeholders such as international organisations and MDAs among others.

Enenche urged the public to disregard the misinformation about the programme, saying it was part of effort to end insurgency in the North East.

He also clarified that the ongoing operations in the North East and North West were aimed at curtailing the movement of terrorists and bandits across the country.

According to him, the military is proactive in dealing with the crisis in the country. (NAN)

MARTINS OLUTADE ABILOYE……A LEGACY IN SERVICE

ABILOYE, OLUTADE MARTINS, an indigene of  Ipe-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of  Ondo State, was born forty four years ago to Chief  Jacob and Mrs Agnes Abiloye of  the Iba clan in Ipe Akoko.

An MBA graduate of  the Manchester Business School of  the University of  Manchester, United Kingdom, Martins Abiloye had previously graduated upper second with honours from the English and Language arts department of  the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife Nigeria. Prior to this, he attended the African Church Grammar School and the St. Mark's Primary School both in Oka Akoko. Today, he sits atop as the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Mart Signatures Nigeria Ltd, a business concern he founded in 2005 involved in Petroleum marketing, Dredging, equipment leasing, Imports and Oilfield Logistics based in Port-Harcourt and in business relationship with Industry giants as Oando Plc, Conoil Plc, Chevron Nig ltd, Masters Energy and so on! Mr  Abiloye is a family man, happily married and blessed with children.

Martin's story is the typical African story- Raised under humble parenting with values from the heartland in a strong family where hard work and education are believed to be necessary means of getting ahead and the conviction that a life so blessed should be lived in service to others. Martins belong to a breed who are able to situate their skill, experience and knowledge within the social realities of their time especially as they concern the political economy and the overall well being of the common man.

Mr. Abiloye's knack for organizing a people towards emancipating them for better lives predates his work or ''comfortable'' years as evident in his single-handedly organizing like-minded compatriots of  Ipe descent in institutions of higher learning in the early 90's into what is today known as the Federation of  Ipe Students' Association. As a founder and pioneer leader of this group, he with other leaders of similar federations in Akoko land also synergized to birth the National Association of  Akoko South-East Students with the sole aim of engaging the local government authorities, lobbying the State government and Encouraging Private Individuals towards supporting the education advancement of  Akoko students by awarding grants and scholarships. It is on record that the group under Martins Olutade Abiloye's leadership learnt to give back to the community by organising free extra-mural classes for secondary school pupils and school leavers writing or re-writing qualifying exams of  WAEC and JAMB with the attendant modest achievement of increasing the National enrolment statistics of  Akoko students in Institutions of higher learning in the 90's.

Upon graduation, Martins Abiloye taught English at a community school in Lagos, had a brief stint as an admin executive in the law firm of chief Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory before finally joining one of the nation's leading oil producing and marketing firm where he worked for 7 years as a supplies, distribution and logistics executive. It is while here that he eventually cut his teeth as a budding entrepreneur, business administrator and management expert. Martins would recall with Nostalgia that the oil firm only hired him because of  a commendation letter he presented from the then Benue State governor George Akume, which was given on account of  his ' unusual' community service during his NYSC days having donated all of his "allowee" – as corpers called their monthly stipends those days to stocking the Library of the school he taught for his primary assignment! He eventually got a state award as the best corper for that year.

Mr. Abiloye's regal perch as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Mart Signature Ltd has provided him with the opportunity to touch lives and impact his community.
Abiloye considered education as the most potent weapon against poverty and established a structure that has awarded scholarship worth over N100 million to over 500 students from villages across Akoko South East Local Government Area in Ondo State. He is a role model for the youths and exemplary son of Akoko land. He caters for the widowed, aged and poor with the resources entrusted to him by God. Specifically, the annual Jacob Abiloye multi-million naira social intervention scheme was instituted to empower youths and advance educational development in the local government. It was designed to benefit undergraduates from Ipe, Isua, Ifira, Ipesi, Sosan and Epinmi towns in tertiary institutions across the country.
On the annual scholarship award scheme, Mr. Abiloye, who instituted the scheme in honour of his father, High Chief Jacob Abiloye, the Olu-Odepo of  Iba Ipe, a community leader, said that he choose education as the vehicle to impact the society because of its limitless powers. "You know what education can do to any human being. I choose education as a vehicle through which I can touch lives because I want a limitless impact; education will enable beneficiaries understand the philosophy behind the action and urge them to replicate it". Over the past 14 years, Jacob Abiloye Foundation has spent over N100 million on its annual scholarship scheme.

Martins' guiding principle has always been malice towards none, charity for all, firmness in the truth and the right, and as God gives us, we must strive towards service to humanity. He had said during this last Ipe day celebrations that 'I have seen, tasted and experienced poverty!, I have therefore sworn on the altar of  God, eternal hostility against every form of  poverty over man. For poverty of the mind, we will bring education, for poverty of the spirit, we will encourage spiritual emancipation, and for physical poverty of  lack, we will bring financial empowerment and dignity of  labour through the provision of smart work.

Mr. Abiloye's many strides in associating with his roots has caught the attention of all and as such has been severally recognized in the form of various awards such as

Media Award as Distinguished Role Model in Educational And Community Development by the National Support Programme Media Link, Leadership Award on Educational Development in Ondo State, by the Akoko chapel of  the Ondo State branch of  NUJ, Senior  Advocate of  the masses by the National Association of  Ondo State Student(NAOSS)

Awards of Cardinal of  Integrity by the National Association of  Akoko South/East Students (NAASES) of various Chapters

In response to several entreaties from various groups including community/opinion leaders, youth groups, market women and Royalty, Mr Abiloye Olutade Martins has finally accepted to offer himself  for further representation of his people at the platform of  the National assembly and as such will be contesting for a seat at the Federal house of representatives in the Akoko South east/West Federal Constituency.

Ondo police parade another suspected Boko Haram member

A suspected member of the Boko Haram sect, Mohammed Bashir, who was arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command on Sunday, has said that he fled Maiduguri, Borno State to Nasarawa State, before coming to Ondo State because of military bombardment.
Bashir, who revealed this at the police headquarters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday, also stated that he was arrested by the men of the state police command in Isua-Akoko, in Akoko South East Local Government Area, while trying to find something to eat.
According to him, he and others decided to leave their base in Maiduguri, Borno State, after the military bombardment and regrouped in Isua to plan their next line of action before he was arrested by the police.
Bashir, 20, who hailed from Nasarawa State, said he was a cattle herder before joining the dreaded group some eight months ago, saying he was recruited by some members of the group who met him in the bush with his cows.
He said his father sent him out of his house after suspecting he had joined the group because of his unusual quietness.
The suspected Boko Haram member, however, confessed to have killed two people, saying the weapons his group used were supplied by a farmer, and the weapons were always returned after each operation.
Speaking on how members of the group could be identified, Bashir said that their ears are usually pierced, admitting that his immediate younger brother also belonged to the group.
He said "when Maiduguri was too hot for us, we ran to Nasarawa State last month, but we left on Saturday to the South-West to hide and regroup. Other members of the group are now at large."

BREAKING; Farmers to crash price of rice to N6000 per bag

THE National President, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) Mallam Aminu Goronyo on Wednesday said the farmers would crash the price of 50kg of rice to about N6000 if the government provide the necessary farm inputs to reduce the cost of production.
Mallam Goronyo who disclosed this after a meeting between the RIFA, Rice Processors and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, noted that in few months' time, if appropriate measures were taken by the government to ease the stress of rice production, the price of rice will crash in the market.
Currently, the price of 50kg bag of rice is sold for N18,000 across the country, but after a meeting between the RIFAN and Rice Processors, they agreed to reduce the price of rice paddy which was N50,000,  to N110,000 per ton, this move will further crash the price of rice from N16,000 to N13,500 per bag.
Goronyo therefore said "this is just the beginning, the actual and real price should even come down because we are expecting a bumper harvest this year and we have sat down with the millers and agreed that we are going to work together for the interest of Nigerians.
"We are expecting that the price of 50kg rice to drop to N6,000 per bag, just give us the next few months, you have heard what the Minister said, our major challenge is cost of production, the minister has promised to bring down the cost of production to the nearest minimum.
Also speaking after the meeting the National President of Rice Processors Association of Nigeria, Mohammed Abubakar said the meeting with the Minister was basically to inform him (the Minister) of the decision by the rice farmers and Processors to reduce the price of rice to N13,500 per 50kg bag.
His words: "We came here to inform the Minister of our agreement with the farms on the price of paddy, to let the Minister know that we have agreed on a price per ton of paddy for this year 2017 and 2018 wet season harvest for N110,000 per ton, as against the N150,000 we buy initially, and we were selling the rice for N16,000 per 50 kg bag, so if this works, we will sell the bag of rice for N13,500 according to where you are buying from.
In his response, the Minster of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh noted if the price of rice is crashed to N13,500, the smugglers' margin will become too small.
He said the government will continue to procure farm machines to assist the rice farmers to ease the stress of rice production, and consequently further crash the prices of rice in the market.
"The biggest enemy of the Nigerian rice farmers and processors are the smugglers, if the price of rice falls to N13,500, smugglers margin becomes too small and we hope that the measures we are going to take can end the smuggling of rice and many other things.
"We will help you ease the burden of rice farming, last year, we procured 8,000 threshers, this year we are going to procure another 2,500 threshers, and we are bringing small reapers to distribute to your farmers, so they can cut the rice with the machine thresh it with the machine, willow it and put it in the sack, and take away all that stress which makes rice farming very difficult.
"I assure you government will continue to procure and support rice farmers so that you can keep to the price you have agreed of a N110,000", the minister added.

TSTV Created Jobs For about 5000 Nigerians prior to it Launching

TSTV, an indigenous digital satellite TV service in Nigeria, was launch on the 1st of October, 2017.
As a response of the the huge unemployment in the country and the recent drive for the consumption of made-in-Nigeria contents, TSTV intends to create employment for over 5000 Nigerians.
The management, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen who paid a courtesy visit to its office. The management also disclosed that about 5000 Free decoders were dish out on during the Launching.
According to Echefu, Africa Health Television AHT gave birth to TSTV. "We've successfully ran African Health Television for more than 5 years without hitches. We have no doubts whatsoever that TSTV would offer an excellent and affordable digital satellite television services to Nigerians."
Also speaking,  Head of Corporate Communications, Magu Ugo, said, TSTV is a Nigerian story told to Nigerians by Nigerians. "Therefore, we are 24 hours available for Nigerians. We can be reached via our website portal and social media handles. Our phone numbers are displayed on these online portals," he added.
TSTV is an indigenous digital satellite TV service, airing over 96 channels. The innovation to have a homegrown digital satellite service came from a serious solution finding exploits of African Health Television.
The harsh economic realities in Nigeria have prompted the initiators to share in finding solutions to ameliorate the high rate of unemployment.
It was only recently that the National Bureau of Statistics released a disheartening report of the rising rate of unemployment.  In fact, unemployment had risen to 14.2% at the time of the report.
In this light, TSTV has come onboard to reduce that number by employing over 5000 Nigerian Youths.
Prior to the launching, TSTV digital center and facility tour takes place alongside the building commissioning on Saturday,  30th September, 2017.
Over the years, many pay TV companies have come and gone; some died because of poor strategic planning, negligence and lack of patronage. The commercialisation of television stations has created competition in terms of content delivery and signal clarity.
TSTV boasts of special features such as 20GB complimentary, PVR function, Pause function, Video call, WiFi and 24 hours customer services online.
Indeed the time to back the campaign of "buy Naija to grow Naira " with action is here as TSTV is purely Nigerian, by Nigerians and for Nigerians.
