Another Boko Haram suspect arrested in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrested of one Mohammed Basha, suspected to be a member of the dreaded Boko Haram in Isua Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, told newsmen in a telephone interview that the suspect was arrested while he was "loitering" along Isua-Ifira Akoko road by the officials of the anti-crime patrol of the command.
The arrest of the suspect linked to the terrorist sect in the Akoko area is the second within one week.
Mr. Joseph said the suspect's strange movement and behaviour gave him away as one who is new and trying to master the area.
"You know, when a person comes into a new place, there is a way he behaves, so the suspect was behaving suspiciously and that drew the attention of our men and he was picked up," said Mr. Joseph.
"When the suspect was arrested, he was interrogated and he confessed that he was a member of the Boko Haram sect.
"He said his father is from Niger Republic while his mother is from Maiduguri in Borno State.
"He said when Maiduguri was hot for him he ran to Nasarawa last month and he left Nasarawa on Saturday and came down to the South-west to hide here.
Mr. Joseph further said some items suspected to be charms were recovered from him.
He said that the suspect was in the protective custody of the command for further investigations.
According to Mr. Joseph, the suspect would be handed over to the military when the police conclude their investigations.
Only last week Tuesday, a wanted member of the sect, Idris Babawo, was picked up by a local vigilante group and handed over to the police.
Mr. Joseph said that suspect was found to be a wanted member of the sect when the Nigerian Army took him into custody.
The army later confirmed Mr. Babawo as one of the most wanted members of the terror group whose activities have caused over 100,000 deaths in Northern Nigeria since 2009.
The spokesperson also revealed that the police commissioner in charge of the state, Gbenga Adeyanju, had commissioned a specialised team trained in identifying terror suspects to the Akoko area which is a gateway into Ondo State from the north.

BREAKING; OBASANJO ENDORSES ATIKU AHEAD OF 2019 ELECTION
The former of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, Has decided to consider the ambition of Atiku Abubakar For Presidency 2019
Arising report indicates former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, is sure to be the fourth time lucky, as he throws his hat into the ring to contest the forthcoming 2019 Presidential election.
Post-Nigeria reliably gathered that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has secretly endorsed Atiku, because of the failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led the government to bring the desired changed.
"Apparently aware of Atiku's intimidating political structures across the nation, Obasanjo has likely endorsed him", a source said.
Post-Nigeria's investigation revealed that Atiku is reputed to have sauntered into the fourth republic, with the huge measured quantity of democratic credentials.
Atiku established himself as a Democrat immediately he left the public service, and became a political devotee of late Gen. Shehu Musa Yar'Adua, an acclaimed great political tactician that flounced the country like a hurricane.
His political history is legendary: a Politician, Businessman, and Philanthropist. He was born on November 25, 1946, and in the beginning of his national political career, served as the second elected Vice President, from 1999 to 2007, under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Atiku worked in the Nigeria Customs Service for 24 years, rising to become the Deputy Comptroller-General. He retired in 1989, and took up full-time business and politics.
He ran for the office of Governor in the Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba States) in 1991; and for the Presidency in 1993, coming third after MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe, in the disbanded Social Democratic Party, SDP, primaries.
In 1998, he contested and won the Governor of Adamawa State. And while still Governor-elect, he was picked by the PDP Presidential candidate, Olusegun Obasanjo, as his running mate. They went into the election and won in 1999.
As documented by Historians, Atiku's second term as Vice President, was characterised by a squally relationship with Obasanjo.
His attempt to succeed Obasanjo did not receive the latter's support, and it took the judgement of the Supreme Court to allow him to contest in 2007, after he was initially disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over an alleged financial misconduct by a "discredited" investigating panel, set up by Obasanjo.
The apex court later ordered the Electoral Commission to restore Atiku's name onto the Presidential ballot, and he ran on the platform of the Action Congress, AC, having quit the PDP on account of his issues with Obasanjo.
Expectedly, he lost the election, coming third after the late Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, and Muhammadu Buhari of the then All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP.
As a "consummated" Businessman, Atiku is a co-Founder of Intels, an oil servicing business with wide ranging operations across the country and outside the country. He is also the founder of Adama Beverages Limited, and the American University of Nigeria, AUN, both in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
Born to an itinerant Fulani Trader and Farmer, Garba Abubakar, the former Vice President was said to have started out in the real estate business during his early days as a Customs Officer.
History has it that in 1974, he applied for and received a N31,000 loan to build his first house in Yola, which he put up for rent. From proceeds of the rent, he was reported to have purchased another plot, and built a second house. He was said to have continued that way, building a considerable range of property in Yola.
Apparently very go-getting in investment, he was said to have later moved into agriculture, acquiring 2,500 hectares of land near Yola, to start a maize and cotton farm. The business fell on hard times and closed in 1986. "My first foray into agriculture in the 1980s, ended in failure", he was quoted as saying.
Obasanjo finally endorse Atiku Abubakar for presidency 2019
Later venturing into trading, buying and selling truckloads of rice, flour and sugar, Atiku's most important business move, was to have come while he was a Customs Officer at the Apapa Ports.
One Gabrielle Volpi, an Italian Businessman in Nigeria, was said to have invited him to set up the Nigeria Container Services, NICOTES, a logistics company operating within the Ports. Those who know him very well said that NICOTES provided immense wealth to Atiku.
Atiku's first expedition into politics was in the early 1980s, when he worked behind the scenes on the Governorship campaign of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who at that time was Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority.
He canvassed for votes on behalf of Tukur, and also donated to the campaign. Towards the end of his Customs career, he met late General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua, who had been second-in-command of the Military Government that ruled Nigeria between 1976 and 1979. Atiku was drawn by Yar'Adua into the political meetings that were now happening regularly in Yar'Adua's Lagos home.
In 1989, Atiku was elected as National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Front of Nigeria, PFN, the political association led by Yar'Adua, to participate in the transition programme initiated by Babangida.
Atiku won a seat to represent his Constituency at the 1989 Constituent Assembly, set up to decide a new Constitution for Nigeria. The Peoples Front was eventually denied registration by the government (none of the groups that applied was registered), and found a place within the Social Democratic Party, one of the two parties decreed into existence by the regime.
Many of his followers have said time without number that a "tested hand" like Atiku, is surely needed to coordinate the proper integration of the youths into the economic mainstream.
"He is the highest individual employer of labour in Nigeria, and a believer in excellence. The truth that cannot be dismissed, is that among those jostling to convince Nigerians for their votes in 2019, only the Turaki has experience in job creation. This is the choice Nigerians must make in 2019, without sentiment and pandering to the propaganda of surrogates of past failures", one of his followers said.
"The fragility of our mutual existence as a country cannot be over exaggerated. As a matter of fact, the erosion of our cultural, religious, and social commonalities, is an ever constant feature of the past two decades.
"There is need to undertake enormous reintegration of all divergent groups into a united country. Nobody can do it better than Atiku. He is a proven man of immense conviction and political muscles, to navigate us to the destination of unity." Source; Post Nigeria.

Nigerian man shares marriage list of prospective groom
A Nigerian man has shared a three-page bride price, marriage list given to a prospective groom seeking a bride in Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo state. The said list indicated cost of N1000 but states items costing over N1million in reality.
The undeniably ridiculous list has gone viral for obvious reasons. Many believe the bride price is a show of the woman's worth and any man willing to pay so much must truly love the woman. Although it never really guarantees a happy or lasting marriage, the practice has been going on for centuries in Nigeria. Many cases of questionable marriage list has come up in the past but the most recent one is this list causing people to question the true value of marriage itself.
However, the stated items cost exceeds that and can possibly be N1million or more with the current inflation rocking the Nigerian economy.
The social media user who shared the post expressed alarm over the fact that the listed items were costed at N1000. Which means the value of the million naira worth of items is N1000 in the eyes of the bride's family. Source Naij.

He said: "Apart from the problem of manpower, we would also do everything possible to provide logistics to all our commands in the country."
Idris, however, called on the members of the public to support the police by giving them useful information in order to police the country properly.
Earlier, Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa state, Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, said inadequate manpower and transfer of officers without replacement poses serious security challenges in the state.
"Lack of adequate patrol vehicles and lack of communication equipment were some of the challenges facing them.
He noted that if these challenges were addressed, they would help enhance capacity for better protection of lives and properties in the state.
Last year, police recruited 10,000 personnel, on the order of President Muhammadu Buhari. The directive was to address shortage of manpower in the police as well as address youth unemployment.Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau disclosed this, on behalf of the president, last year, at a ceremonial parade to mark the 2016 Police Week in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Dambazau further explained the recruitment would address the manpower gap in the force and advised the management to put national interest into consideration during the recruitment.
"In carrying out this exercise, I expect the Nigeria police to put national interest in the foremost."
"No nation thrives without security and neither can a nation lay claim to security without an efficient policing service.
"This administration shall continue to support initiatives that will guarantee the reform and modernisation of the Nigeria police.
''I must clearly recognise that the nation expects so much from the police."
He also noted that the government is determined to "bequeath a reformed, re-oriented, well-trained, well-equipped and highly-motivated police."
The recruits completed training in May 2017.

FG GAG CITIZENS FROM MAKING PHONE CALLS ON RADIO AND TELEVISION SHOWS
National Broadcasting Commission Moves To Censor Phone-In Programs
The new rule, which will take effect on October 1, 2017, was communicated to media houses on August 10 during a meeting held at the commission's zonal office at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has announced that it would fine broadcast stations a sum of N500,000 for any perceived hate speech expressed by callers during phone-in programs.
The new rule, which will take effect on October 1, 2017, was communicated to media houses on August 10 during a meeting held at the commission's zonal office at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
At the meeting, the zonal director of NBC, Matthew Okoduwa, expressed profound worry for the comments some Nigerians make during phone-in segments of live programs. He blamed presenters and show anchors for giving people the opportunity to air hateful statements on live shows.
Mr. Okoduwa said that he understood that many Nigerians are angry and frustrated about the state of the nation, but emphasized that hate speech is not the way to express such frustration. He warned that the country is very volatile, hence media houses need to control the kind of comments Nigerians are allowed to make on television and radio broadcasts.
The director also limited newspaper reviews to once a day, urging viewers and listeners to contribute such reviews on social media rather than on television or radio programs.
"Newspaper reviews can only be broadcast once a day in a station. Anything more than that would amount to a breach of the new rule," the director explained.
Mr. Okoduwa mandated that broadcast stations use screeners to censor calls before they go live on programs. He also said programs can only have five call-in shows per day.
The commission also mandated that henceforth, the cost of phone calls must be borne by the station and not individuals calling in.
Speaking on the discussion of judicial cases, Mr. Okoduwa said media houses cannot hold a discussion about ongoing court cases, stating that filed suits can only be discussed at the early stage and at the final stage after judgment has been given.
Some media houses have raised concerns over this new set of rules issued by the NBC.
One concern is that the new rules compromise free speech, as it could deny Nigerians the opportunity to voice their opinions on important political and social issues.
Others have lamented that the new rules will impose new expenses on radio and television stations, as they will now have to bear the cost of phone calls and purchase screening machines.
"I believe that this will restrict the free speech of Nigerians," a media practitioner who requested anonymity told our correspondent.
"Putting the cost of calls solely on the shoulder of stations will likely mean most stations will only have one or two toll-free lines, which reduces the ways in which Nigerians can voice their opinions. The costs of toll-free lines and call screening machines may prove high for some stations, making them choose between giving Nigerians access to voicing their opinions and their expense sheet."
The new regulations came less than a week after a hateful song inciting violence against Igbos was circulated in northern Nigeria
